7 Talents to look out for in 2017

IT LOOKS like 2017 is going to be a big year for

some of our up-and-coming entertainers in

Mzansi. We look at the rising stars who had a

great start in 2016 and promise to give us more

in 2017.

1. BABES WODUMO

Bongekile Simelane (23), who is better known by her

stage name Babes Wodumo, is a popular singer and

dancer. Babes, who is blessed with good looks and

sexy dance moves, rose to fame when she released

her song, Wololo. The video has more than two

million views on YouTube. Not only is she signed

to Mampintsha’s West Ink Record Label, she’s also

rumoured to be the kwaito star’s wife-to-be.

2. NASTY C

2016 was definitely Nasty C’s year. The star, whose

real name is Nsikayesizwe David Ngcobo, is one

of the best rappers in the country right now. The

19-year-old songwriter and record producer is

popularly known for his hit song, Juice Back. He is

the youngest artist to receive an award at the 2015

South African Hip Hop Awards and has featured

some big stars on his songs, including Cassper

Nyovest.

3. SHEKINAH DONNEL

Shekhinah Donnell (23) has been making waves in

the entertainment scene since she made her claim

to fame as an Idols SA contestant. The talented

youngster’s catchy tunes can be heard on several

radio stations across Mzansi. She has teamed up

with some of the big names in the industry.

4. KING MONADA

Limpopo singer, King Monada (23) became an

overnight sensation after he released his hits

Khontoga, Adi Nyake Wena and Ska Bhora Moreki.

He’s the talk of the town and has managed to put

Bolobedu house music on the map. King Monada,

whose real name is Khutso Steven Kgale, is from Ga-

Mokgolobotho Village outside Tzaneen.

5. MAHLATSE LETOKA

Every year, the entertainment industry uncovers

new talent and this year has not been different.

The actress to watch in 2017 is Mahlatse Letoka

(19), who is on her way to stardom. She is blessed

with natural talent and is the next biggest thing in

Mzansi. Mahlatse’s breakthrough came last year

when she first appeared on SABC 1’s popular soapie,

Generations – The Legacy as Xolelwa.

6. MAKGOTSO M

Makgotso M (24) is not only excelling in her roles

on TV, but also in her studies. She completed her

BA Joint Honours Degree in Theatre Studies, Film

and Television at Brunel University in London. She

played the character of Onika on Muvhango and

recently on Isidingo as Kamogelo Tsotetsi.

7. NKOPANE MOHOLA

Nkopane Mohola had almost given up on acting

when he landed a role on the drama series, Ya Lla

on Mzansi Magic last year, where he played the role

of Lenka Moshoeshoe. The Greed and Desire actor

is also a kwaito and hip-hop artist who goes by the

name, EmceeConundrum
