8 tips to change your work life forever

Working has its ups and downs. Sometimes we’re enthusiastic about an upcoming project, while at other times we feel drained and uninspired. Yet, with a few small and easy changes, life at the office can be so much better.

Try these tips:

1.    Decide whether it’s a bad day, week or job

Some days are just bad days. We start to question everything and wonder if we’re in the right career. At times like this, ask yourself whether it is just a bad day, week or job overall. Don’t make any rash decisions.

2.    Take breaks

There’s nothing worse than being tied down to your chair. Get up every now and then, walk around, make some coffee, stretch your legs and just regroup and get your mind off work, even if it’s for ten minutes.

3.    Make your desk your own

Your desk is your sanctuary and since you spend eight or more hours of your day together, you might as well make it a pleasant place to sit at. By making it your own with personal items, you’ll feel more comfortable, and it might just change your mood at work.

4.    Plan your day

Although it’s impossible to know what the day might hold, making a mock-up plan (or to-do list) of your day is a great way to boost productivity and keep your mind preoccupied.

5.    Forget about the price tag

As Jessie J would say, “It’s not about the money.” Okay, but sometimes it really is.

We work to pay bills and buy some of our favourite things, yet you need to have passion for what you’re doing. If you’ve never had passion for what you do, it might be time to consider another path.

6.    Change your outlook

There have been many time where I’m so overwhelmed with life that I never truly appreciate how lucky I am to be where I am. Look around and appreciate your situation (yes, it might not be a walk in the park), but be grateful for what you do have and try to forget the things you don’t have.

7.    Reward yourself

If you know you’ve done a good job then reward yourself with something you love, such as enjoying a treat or buying a little gift for yourself after a fruitful and successful week or month at work.

8.    Make friends

Yes, work isn’t the ideal place to make lifelong besties and you’re just there to do your job, but befriending someone never hurts. Nurture a friendship with a fellow colleague you can have a conversation with and actually make your workspace a comfortable environment.
