The YFE programme activation process took place today at Grahamstown based Rhodes University. The aim of the campus activation is to say 'you can have fun without alcohol', promote a culture of responsible alcohol consumption and help build a better future for all.

“What does responsible mean to you?” this is the question Association for Responsible Alcohol (ARA) aims to answer through its three year Young Free & Educated (YFE) programme.

The main activities of the program will be as follows: YFE Dialogues; YFE student leader’s workshops; YFE EXPO and all with the aim of drawing attention to the issues of drinking and driving and coming up with workable solutions that can help turn the Tide.

ARA has been educating people about the responsible alcohol use since its establishment in 1989. YFE runs from June 2015- December 2015 targeting higher education youth between the ages of 19 and 25, falling within the drinking and driving focal point of ARA.

In a strategic way to pull the youth in DJ/Music producer/record executive/X-Factor SA judge Oscar “Oskido” Mdlonga, soccer star Jabu Mahlangu, and Ukhozi FM personality Vukani "Chilli M" Masinga have been chosen as ambassadors of the YFE programme.

This is why they were chosen as ambassadors: “The three were chosen because of their life experiences and stories that resonate with the key messaging of YFE as well as their celebrity status that should strike a chord with the targeted market," says Monica Sempe, ARA COO.

Partners include Nelson Mandela Foundation: Strategic Partner, RTMC: Key Program Partner and South African Union of Students: Strategic Partner.
