Chocolate banana loaf

¦ 250g margarine,


¦ 400g (2 cups) white


¦ 4 eggs

¦ 6 bananas, mashed

¦ 10ml (2 teaspoons)

vanilla essence

¦ 750ml ( 3 cups) cake

wheat flour

¦ 10ml ( 2 teaspoons)

bicarbonate of soda

¦ 65ml (¼ cup)

cocoa powder

¦ 250ml (1 cup) sour

milk (maas)

¦ 250ml (1 cup)

chocolate chips or finely

chopped dark chocolate


Preheat the oven to 180°C

and lightly grease two

loaf pans.

In a large bowl, cream

together margarine,

sugar and eggs. Stir in

bananas and vanilla. Sift

in flour, bicarbonate of

soda and cocoa. Mix well.

Blend in sour milk and

chocolate chips.

Pour batter into the

prepared pans and bake

in preheated oven for 60

minutes, or until a skewer

inserted into centre of a

loaf comes out clean.
