NPA: New Blood

Appointed by President Jacob Zuma, new National Director of Public Prosecutions - 39-year-old Advocate Shaun Abrahams - replaces previous head of the NPA, Mxolisi Nxasana who recently left the organisation with a multi-million rand payout. Abrahams this week stressed to media that he would not be using his powers to protect anybody and aspires to complete his full term – a feat no other NPA boss has yet achieved. Carte Blanche looks into a state entity dogged by high-level political interference.

The R1-million Pinkie

When a truck driver injured his finger in an accident, his lawyers claimed nearly R1-million in damages from the Road Accident Fund. After a judge intervened to question the size of the claim, the driver was finally awarded only R25 000. Carte Blanche investigates the massive claims that have left the RAF broke and legitimate benefactors out of pocket and struggling to survive.

Intimate Femicide

With a death every eight hours South Africa has a femicide rate five times higher than the global average. Carte Blanche investigates a handful of shocking intimate femicide cases that beg the question - what will it take to bring down levels of violence against women?

But for some subscribers it offers an escape and the chance to ‘catfish’ - creating false identities, often to pursue online romance or cause harm to others. Do you really know who you are talking to on Facebook? Carte Blanche goes behind the screen to expose a web of deceit.
