Oudtshoorn is a jewel on the Garden Route. This gateway to the Klein Karoo is also home to the Cango Caves World Heritage Site. But peel back the peaceful veneer, and what’s revealed, is a town held hostage by apparent vested interests and political expedience. Indigo Skate Camp

Skateboarding is an expression of freedom without limits and boundaries. And, for vulnerable rural youth from a Zulu village in the Valley of a 1000 Hills this sport has been life-changing. The Indigo Skate Camp, brainchild of  skateboarding champion Dallas Oberholzer, has taken local rough diamonds and polished them to compete as international champions. Carte Blanche drops in.

Christopher Panayiotou, the Port Elizabeth businessman accused of masterminding his wife Jayde’s murder in April, has applied for bail for a second time. He now waits for the Grahamstown High Court’s decision next Tuesday. But so too does Jayde’s family. Carte Blanche sits down for an exclusive interview with Jayde’s mother Michelle and sister Toni to hear of their anguish and grief.

But disturbing new research reveals that extended screen use – tablets, computers and smartphones – could rewire the brain, causing similar brain pathologies and psychiatric conditions in children and adults. Carte Blanche meets tech expert Brad Huddlestone, who appeals for balance in a rapidly-changing digital world.
