Durban is the first African city to  host the Common Wealth Games in 2022. The announcement was made on 02 September 2015 in Auckland, new Zealand. South Africa was the only bidding country after Edmonton from Canada withdrew in February, due to cost concerns.

The Common Wealth games will boost tourism and create jobs, and they will open on 18 July 2022, and they will run for 12 days.
