D-Black: On music

Desmond Kwesi Blackmore - better known as D-Black – is one of Ghana’s leading Hip Hop artists. His 2010 debut album Music, Love & Life began his incredible journey into mainstream recognition.

Despite being dropped six months before the album release; the hit track “Somebody” made it onto top 10 charts on numerous major Ghanaian radio stations hardly a month after its release. Following the huge success of his first single, D-Black followed up with the release of the club banger “Get On Da Dance Floor”feat Dr. Cryme which remained true to its title receiving airplay on dance floors across Africa.

The award winning video for this banger was released in November 2010, followed up by a remix which featured Nigeria’s Ice Prince & Kel, South Africa’s HHP, Efya and Dr. Cryme from Ghana-black made history in 2011 when he became the first GhanaianHip-hop artist to be nominated at the prestigious BET Awards for Best International Act (AFRICA) with just one album to his credit; where he was pitted against 2 Face Idibia, D’Banj, Tear Gas, Angelique Kidjo and Fally Ipupa.
