Dope Brands and a Room summit to move SA in line with US trend

The Dope Brands and a Room marketing summit, brainchild of Siya Metane, better known as Slikour of SlikourOnLife, a leading local urban culture and music platform, strives to help South African brands connect in an authentic way with ‘culture’.

The movement advocated by Metane will bring South Africa in line with international – particularly American – trends where major brands are working together with urban culture leaders, giving them a bigger voice and creating a more integrated market for the brands.

The summit takes place on 25 May at Langhams, Fourways and is targeted at brand managers, marketing managers, and advertising managers.

The crux of the idea behind the Dope Brands summit is to facilitate a space where the creative worlds of urban culture and big brand marketing get together and initiate dialogue. Says Slikour, “Culture is art imitating life – and great marketing should reflect consumers’ wants, needs and aspirations, ultimately dictating the pattern of their lives.”

Presenting at the workshop will be cultural influencers such as DJ Dimplez, Osmic, AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Thabiso Khati, Jessica Motoung, Minnie Dlamini, and others. A speaker from an agency will chair discussions and speak on the generic definition of marketing and the impact of brand influencers.
