ANDILE Sithole (27) first burst into the entertainment industry in 2013 when he landed the role of Ndumiso Ngcobo on e.TV’s Scandal. On the soapie we were introduced to him as the man who moves from KwaZulu-Natal and tries to make it in Joburg. This might have been the show’s storyline, but Andile’s real life story is not that far-fetched from

the character that he plays.

GROWING UP IN THE RURAL AREAS

Speaking to Move! Andile shares his story of being a rural boy who grew up herding cattle to starring in one of Mzansi’s best-loved soapies. The star, who had a very difficult upbringing, says his life has turned around since he started working on the show. “I was only in Grade 9 when I started working. I had to start doing odd jobs on weekends to help

my mother who had to raise us alone after my father passed away. She did all she could, but she struggled,” he says. At a very young age he learnt to be responsible and to appreciate what he had.“Today, I am where I am because of what I have gone

through in life. I am working hard because I know what poverty is and I want to give my children a better life than the one I had,” says the actor.

PICKING UP THE PIECES

Passionate about education, Andile continued doing odd jobs even after he finished school to save money for university. However, he says while he was studying education at the University of South Africa, the acting fever caught him. “My cousin was the one who told me about the Scandal! auditions. I took my chances and went to audition. A few weeks later I got a call letting me know that I had an audition in Joburg,” says Andile. When he received the call Andile was terrified because it was his first time coming to the City of Gold. “I was scared to come to Joburg because of

HIS BIG BREAK

Andile says as much as he was happy about getting the Scandal! role, he had a hard time finding his feet in Joburg. “After struggling to find a place to stay because I was not familiar with the area, I eventually found a place in Yeoville. But even then I had no

money to pay rent because some weeks I would get called and some weeks it would be totally dry,” he says. During this time he felt like packing his bags and going back home. However, things worked out for the better in the end. The actor has been happily married for two years. Apart from acting Andile is a musician and has recently released a new single. He adds, “Sometimes being in the industry comes with different challenges. Women throw themselves at me. But I’ve just released a single called If You Know Me and this song tells everyone that I am taken and happy.” Andile also owns a

security company.
