I am a 23-year-old woman who was diagnosed with HIV in 2013. I want to tell my partner that I am HIV positive but I am afraid of his reaction. We are using condoms when we have sex because I do not want him to be infected. How can I disclose my status to him?

Sis Naledi responds:

It is a noble thing for you to feel the sense of responsibility to disclose your HIV status to

your sexual partner. He may even appreciate that you are concerned about infecting him and have been trying to be safe all along. Let him understand your fears and apologise for not disclosing for all the time you were with him. Do not lie to him, he is likely to find out the truth and it may destroy the trust that you would have already established.
