I’m 22 years old and gay. No one knows that I’m gay. I want to come out to my family and friends, but don’t know how to.

Sis Naledi answers:

Start by checking who is likely to understand you within the family. Talk to that person and see if they can support you and start talking to your broader family about it without you being there. Remember, even a heterosexual relationship is usually never discussed with family. They just happen to find out that their child is dating. You have no obligation to tell them about your sexual orientation too. If you are comfortable with yourself and you are happy with your choices, family will learn to accept you as you are. Do not feel pressured to come out unless you are ready to.
