How to take care of your hair this winter

MOST of us tend to cover our heads with head gear in winter, but this does not mean we have to neglect taking care of our hair. In winter, it is important that you give your hair the same care you give it in summer to prevent any damage and promote growth.

ITCHY SCALP SHAMPOO

Your hair does not become itchy only in summer. Dry cold temperatures can cause your scalp to be dry and flaky as there are less natural oils produced. Instead of getting just any shampoo, buy one that is especially meant for the scalp. This will clean and hydrate your scalp. Do not scrub the scalp excessively. This will irritate it, causing it to flake even more.

NAPE BALM OR CREAM

Although caps, hoodies, hats or barrettes may keep you warm in winter, they have an effect on the nape (the back of the neck) as constant friction tends to break and damage the hair. If your nape is not taken care of during winter, it will be a bigger problem is

summer. Buy a nape balm or cream with menthol. Menthol stimulates growth.

ROOTS OIL

Strong roots are happy roots. Oil not only keeps your roots healthy, but helps them grow. It is essential to use the roots oil once a week rather than once a month. Apply a moisturiser before applying the roots oil. The oil is enough to hydrate the roots and

the hair.

HAIR SOFTENER

This is for days when your hair is too coarse or painful to comb. Apply the hair softener at night and your hair will be easy to manage in the morning. Wear a silk or satin cap to hold the moisture in.

DETANGLING COMB

You can use this type of comb to detangle a weave or natural hair without breaking the hair. When detangling, grasp the hair in the middle with your other hand so that there is less pulling from the roots.

SILK OR SATIN CAP

There is a lot of friction between your hair and the pillow when you are sleeping. Friction is not good for your hair as it tend to tangle and even break it. To avoid this, wear a silk cap, which prevents split ends, which are caused by friction. It also keeps curly hair in shape. Change the silk cap after six months as the fabric loses its anti-friction capabilities
