How to upgrade your man's look

Are your man’s skinny jeans a little too skinny? Is he wearing the same collared T-shirt he’s been wearing since you first started dating? Or, worse, does he own a pair of Crocs? Well, if this is the case, here’s how to get your man to dress to impress.

Mix comfort with style

Don’t go out and buy your partner a whole lot of clothes without him. That’s the first rule. He needs to try on the clothes to make sure he feels good when he’s wearing them.

It’s also important to stick to clothes he’s comfortable with

If he’s more of a denim than a suit guy, stick to that. If he’s not going to wear it, there’s no use in purchasing it, but you can find a stylish alternative to his baggy, frayed jeans from the mid '90s.

If Kurt Cobain was alive when he bought it, it has to go, but other than that, try to improve his taste in clothing rather than toss it out of the window.

Invest in some quality staples

You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe. What you should do is purchase a few quality items that completely transform his average outfit. For example, replace the Crocs with pretty much any other men’s shoes.

A good jacket, a great pair of jeans and a few decent shirts is a good place to start. Quality is important because you want these items to last and still look good after a long period of time. Rather go for timeless style than trends which will change quickly.

Be subtle about it

Don’t announce that you hate the way he dresses and expect him to jump into the car and go shopping with you.

Rather suggest certain items to him when you’re out. Point out that he could really use a new jacket for winter and offer to browse the shop with him. Be honest when you don’t like something though, no matter how excited he gets about it. If he’s really in love with those Crocs, you could always, accidentally, set them on fire.

At the end of the day, you love your partner. But that doesn’t mean you have to love his clothing choice.
