I have been cheating

“I have been cheating on my husband for a long time. I must say, I felt bad about what I was doing, but when you are stealing something, you enjoy it more than when it is legal. My husband is very good to my children and me. In the last three months my boyfriend started coughing and I thought it was just a winter cough, but eventually he went to the clinic and he was told he had tuberculosis.

Things just happened so fast: he got thin, lost his appetite and daily I saw him losing energy and weight. Eventually he died. Someone told me that he also had other girlfriends. I am scared because it means he died from HIV. The person that I am scared for is my husband because he is innocent. How can I tell him that we must always use condoms?” – Noni

Dear Noni

I feel very sorry for your husband and children because they are not to blame. I suggest you discuss this matter with your husband as soon as possible. A social worker would be an ideal person to help you, because the whole family is going to need counselling. Think about your husband and your children, who cannot afford to lose both parents. Repair your relationship with your husband because your children’s future depends on it – they really deserve to have a good stable family life. Why should they suffer because of your carelessness? If you really love them as your blood, you would do as I have suggested, even if it means losing your marriage. I wish you all the best.
