Married man played me

Can you sue your married lover if he doesn't eventually get a divorce like he promised ?

Question : I am a 24-year-old woman living in Duduza in Ekurhuleni. I dated a married man for about two

and half years. He told me that he was in the process of divorcing his wife and we could be together and live happily forever thereafter.

I found out that I was pregnant and I went to break the news to him. He started avoiding me and later told me that he was no longer divorcing his wife. I feel used and betrayed. I feel this

man has played me and wasted my time. Is there any legal basis for me to sue him?

Please advice.

DISAPPOINTED, DUDUZA

Answer:

If you were anticipating a divorce one wonders as to why you did not wait for the supposed divorce to get finalised.

An agreement with a married person to divorce his or her spouse to pave a way for your relationship

is not only against public policy and therefore unenforceable, but immoral as well.

The law protects the institution of marriage. The man’s wife is entitled to sue you for committing adultery with her husband. Your child is entitled to maintenance from the father.
