Police shot a man in Johannesburg on Tuesday, causing the closure of the M1 South highway, Johannesburg metro police said.

"One suspect has been shot by members of the SA Police Service," said spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar. The highway was closed near the Joe Slovo off-ramp in Houghton. Eyewitness News reported there was a shoot-out in the Killarney area, with a number of police cars and a police helicopter arriving at the scene.

eNCA reported that the M1 highway was closed in both directions after police were involved in a shoot-out with suspects. It appeared that no civilians were injured.
