Signs your partner could be abusing you

According to the Oxford English Dictionary Abuse is when one treats with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly.

In the spirit of 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children we look at the five most common types of abuse that tend to affect a large number of people

Five types of Abuse:

Physical Abuse

Physical abuse occurs when someone uses a part of their body or an object to hurt and control you. When someone kicks, slaps and even pushes you that can be classified as physical abuse.

Sexual Abuse

A number of us are familiar with Sexual violence, some people even call it rape. It occurs when a person is forced to unwillingly take part in sexual activity.

Emotional Abuse

Emotional abuse occurs when someone says or does something to make you feel stupid or worthless.

Psychological Abuse

Psychological abuse occurs when someone uses threats and arouses fear in an individual to gain control.

Financial Abuse

Financial abuse occurs when someone controls an individual’s financial resources without the person’s consent or misuses those resources.
