A Soweto factory worker spent the best R20 of her life when she used to it buy a ticket that won her the R20 million Lotto jackpot on April 30.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, bought the ticket with the six winning numbers at Shoprite in Glen Ridge, Soweto, said Zuki Nomnganga, spokesperson for Lotto operator Ithuba.

She kept her ticket in her Bible and thought it was a mistake when she saw she had matched all six numbers.

“She’s thrilled that she will finally get to fulfil her dream of retiring early and acquiring a home by the sea,” Nomnganga said in a statement on Tuesday.

“She said her other dream of buying her daughter a house will finally also be fulfilled. She’s excited that her retirement money will now be like an added bonus as she enters a new life as South Africa’s newest multi-millionaire.”

The woman’s ticket marked the Lotto’s 31st R1 million-plus jackpot winner since June last year, when Ithuba took over the running of the lottery.
