MANY people suffer from a scalp irritation called dandruff. It appears as dry, scaly

particles on the scalp. For some people, the flakes become so bad that they cover

the whole head. Dandruff can be embarrassing as it is unsightly on clothes and it

also leaves pillows and hats dirty. However, it can be perfectly managed with the right products. In the case where dandruff is caused by a medical condition, it's best to to see a dermatologist who will advise you on the medication and the products to use to deal with the problem.

TIPS FOR DEALING WITH DANDRUFF

¦ People who have a problem with dandruff usually complain that washing their hair often causes it to break. But if the scalp is not washed often enough, oil and dead skin cells build up and this creates more problems. Use a shampoo and conditioner that do not have

sulphates as these are not suitable for a dry scalp.

¦ Don't scratch the scalp as this causes irritation, leading to even more dandruff.

¦ Always keep your scalp moisturised as this will lessen the appearance of dandruff.

¦ Avoid using harsh chemicals on your hair such as relaxers, especially if you have a very sensitive scalp.

¦ You also need to stay away from hair dyes. Most contain peroxide, which can cause dandruff and damage hair over time.

¦ Use alcohol-free shampoos. These will keep the scalp cool and help get rid of the dandruff.

¦ Use soft-bristle brushes to avoid scratching the scalp.

¦ Massage the scalp at least twice a week when washing your hair. This will help loosen the dandruff and keep your hair clean.

¦ Do not change hair products too often. This can also cause an irritation to the scalp.

¦ If possible, visit your nearest salon and have a scalp treatment done once a month. This keeps the scalp clean and healthy.
