A woman gave birth during peak hour traffic on June 2o at R114 and Malibongwe Drive in Nietgedacht - north of Johannesburg.

According to a post on the EMER-G-MED's Facebook page, their  Advanced Life Support Paramedic - Jean Briedenhann, was called onto the scene - when he arrived he found  the soon to be mom lying on the side of the road in active labour.   Upon arrival Briedenhann immediately prepared his equipment to safely deliver the baby, while a passing ambulance (en-route back to Thabazimbi after a long distance inter-hospital transfer) was flagged down by bystanders.

The patient was rapidly loaded into the ambulance. Once in the ambulance, Jean quickly and successfully delivered the baby boy.

After the baby boy and his mom were confirmed to both be healthy and in a stable condition, they were transported by provincial ambulance crews to the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital in Krugersdorp for further observations.
