We often take this for granted but picking the perfect moving date is key to a successful house move.
Make sure this date doesn’t conflict with any other planned event and that your friends and family, who have offered to help, are also freed up.
Neil Moodley from HandHop.co.za has the following advice...
1. Avoid moving on Fridays
Friday afternoons are generally the busiest time in South Africa and should be avoided at all costs. The last thing you want is waiting for your valuables to arrive.
2. Call in the professionals
When it comes to your chosen removal company, make sure you have done all the relevant background checks and research. There are many fly-by-night companies which claim that they can deliver but fall short dismally.
3. Have your possessions insured
Always make sure that all your possessions are insured. It might cost a few extra Rands but this gives you total peace of mind.
4. Get your new home thoroughly cleaned
Take some time to do this right - hire industrial cleaning machines if you have to.
You’ll be surprised what previous owners often leave behind.
5. Measure your new home
Work out all the dimensions of your new home before drawing up a rough blue print of where everything will fit. This saves time and money.
6. Send postal mail to the new address
This is often forgotten. To avoid back and forth commuting, make sure you take care of it at the beginning of the ‘moving month’.
7. Find alternate routes in your new neighbourhood
Take the time to drive around your new neighbourhood, identifying and familiarising yourself with the alternative routes. This will save you precious time during the morning’s hustle and bustle.
This also allows you to get comfortable and confident in your new surroundings.
8. New vet for the pets
If you have pets get the address and contact details of a vet in the new area.
Our pets are ultimately part of our family and knowing the location of the nearest vet is always a good idea
