Dear Anene, I don’t know you or your face but I know your name. I don’t know what dreams you had for the future and I don’t know what pains you had in the past, but I know you are dead. You died in a way that no human should die. I hear people saying what a waste of a life and I wonder.
You see Anene, I believe your death, as gruesome as it was, will ultimately save lives. I am just sorry that our country and society has fallen so far into this moral sickness that it took you being beaten, raped and disembowelled for South Africans to all jump up and say NO! And im ashamed to say I am one of them. We know the stats, one person raped every 4 minutes!!! We know we are the rape capital of the world, but yet we are desensitised to it.
It took you to show us that we all need to stand together as one voice and let the government know that South Africans will not stand for this anymore. Our daughters, sisters, wives and girlfriends are precious to us. And must be protected.
All day I have seen BBM status’s changing to Stop Rape, and I know your name…..Anene Booysen! You are the reason South Africans woke up angry today. You are the spark that has ignited people to lift their heads and see what is happening, and Im ashamed to also be one of those people.
I pray that your family and friends will find comfort during this sad time.
Thank you Anene and may you rest in peace.
