A Question to the 'preachers'

08 August 2012, 08:02
My question is aimed at the ‘preachers’ from both sides of the fence – Atheist and Religious alike. What do you hope to achieve by attacking the foundations of each other’s belief systems?  Are you trying to convert each other or are you just trying to validate your personal beliefs?
Ironically I do fall part of one of these groups, yet due to the behaviours of the ‘preachers’ I would prefer to distance myself from them.
The so-called scientific and logical atheists constantly shout about the Big-Bang and Evolution theories, always gloss over the fact that a huge amount still needs to be explained before these theories can be taken as fact.   For example Darwin’s theory of evolution concerns me regarding the development of humans, we are expected to believe that we became naked apes that needed to wear clothes during an ice-age, the massive expansion of the human brain has not been explained etc.  These are just areas of concern – I am not saying Darwin was wrong, simply that a fair amount still needs investigating.
Charles-Dumbwin wrote a great article (my opinion) calling Atheism a religion/cult, and touched on some very interesting points.  Charles showed an understanding of how a religion gets started.  I have always queried the original starting points of religions and queried the most fallible part of the procedure --- Human involvement.  Is it not possible that all religions are simply misconstrued interactions between slightly more ‘evolved’ or intelligent people and some less intelligent ones?  Is it not possible that all religions were simply a set of simple rules to allow different people to interact with a similar set of guidelines? It is not like this has ever happened in modern history (Cargo Cults)
The only fact I have that is not open for debate, is that I do not know for certain.  I do however urge people to apply a scientific method --- collect the data yourself, make a decision yourself.  Do not be swayed by people that talk with confidence, they might believe what they say, but no-one knows for certain.  Whatever beliefs you come to on your own are more valuable than anything that can be learnt or taught and is a pathway to enlightenment.  I applaud all those whom have made their own decisions.
