A brief profile of the AFRICA UNITE PARTY

31 March 2014, 08:00

The Africa Unite Party or AUP was registered with the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)on the 7th of March , 2014. It was included in the National Elections on the 12th March,2014 and was the first to sign the Code of Conduct Pledge in Gallagher Estate , Midrand alongside 33 other contesting political parties on the 19th March,2014. On the 21st March which is Human Rights day commerating the Sharpville massacre in South Africa the leader of the party , Mr. Robin Denton walked into the Johnanesburg Central ( John Vorster Square)- which happens to be the largest police station in Africa, and charged a sitting presdient, President Jacob Zuma with theft , fraud and corruption. Mr Denton was given a case no , Number 1046 ;and the docket was transferred to Nkandla( the hometown of the president) where it is currenlty being investigated by Captain JC Mgaga Case no 167/3/2014.

The AUP is also notable for taking the IEC to the Consitutional Court on the issue of paying the security deposit. The case has been accepted on the 28th March, 2014 and is to be heard by the court shortly. The AUP is standing in the elections (on the 7th of May) on the issues of racially motivated violence but describes itself as the " Third Way" in South African politics. It views itself as an enlightened centre party for the youth. Its Youth Wing is called " UMVUKO" which means " AWAKEN" in Xhosa. It has yet to release its manifesto but says that the Freedom Charter needs to be updated with an " Empowerment Charter" as a contract with all disenfranchised South Africans.

The AUP has also been involved in sevral protests against violence against women outside the Oscar Pistorius trial in Pretoria. It wants to highlight the issues of violence, corruption and unemployment. Its website can be viewed at www.africa-unite.co.za
