A monument of capacity and ability

26 June 2014, 09:17

Travelling on the R25 which links Bronkhorstspruit and Groblersdal is not only an eye opener but stands testimony to the capacities and abilities of the provinces through which the road cuts.
The road cuts through Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo and in each section, it is as clear as daylight which province is exactly fulfilling its mandate on infrastructure and road regeneration and development.
Within the Gauteng and Mpumalanga Province the road has 2 lanes in each direction yet in Limpopo the road only caters for one lane in each direction of traffic.
One would have imagined that the bigger picture of the development, rejuvenation and regenerating of the road would have been a collective effort by all three provinces and that the provinces would have interacted with one another and specified their mandate in respect of the road, in order that there would have been cohesion (unity, consistency, solidity, organization, structure) amongst them and that the left hand would know what the right hand is doing.
But alas, we have three provinces that are mandated to develop roads and infrastructure and each province decides the ambit of its duties which should have all been the same, taken that it is indeed a road, running through their province but linking and interlinking one town to another, yet once again, it is evident that people don’t talk, and as a result, something which was to have benefitted the users, again became a ‘death trap’ in the making. This being a clear example of where, what is actually working, and which province has the actual capacity and ability to deliver on its mandate.
