A payment plan for the sins of the past

23 November 2012, 10:46

Okay, so every time I read anything on News24, whether it's a speech by an ANC member, a post by a racist, or a racist comment by a twenty year old 'struggle veteran', someone is demanding to be repaid.

According to these people, us 'settlers' owe them the money that Van Riebeek stole from their ancestors.

I've always said that's BS, and that you can't hold the descendents of anyone - even someone who did something wrong - accountable for what they've done.

I'd like to amend that.

I say, if anyone can tell me what currency was used in SA pre Van Riebeek, and what the value of said currency was at the time, perhaps it should be paid back.

Please do note, however, that we are talking currency here - like what the Dutch and the Brits brought.

Kthanksbye.
