Do you think you’re a good person?
Yes, I do think I’m a good person. Correction…I don’t just think I am a good person. I KNOW I’m a good person.
Regardless of what you may believe, you are not.
Oh. Well, how sad for you, living every day of your life hating yourself. No wonder you lot are so unhappy all the time. Do you really look at yourself in the mirror every day and say “Dear lord, I’m such a horrible person that I deserve to go to hell and burn for all eternity”? You must have very low self esteem. Frankly, I don’t buy into that. No, I’m not a saint, but I don’t have to be. I just have to be me. Take me or leave me. That way, everyone is happy.
Consider this. How many lies have you told in your life time? How many things have you stolen in your life? If you are honest with yourself, then you've just admitted to being a liar and a thief.
Oh pish. “Does this dress make me look fat?” “No hunny, of course not!” BAM! TO HELL WITH YOU! BURN SINNER BURN!!! FOREVER AND EVER!!!! Is that really what is going to happen? Yes, I’ve told lies. Small ones and big ones, and sometimes they hurt people. That’s how people learn. We learn through making mistakes and learning from them. As a little pup, I stole some pencils once. Oh, and I MAY have taken some money from mom’s purse once…I was thirsty, okay? Yeah…that’s a crime on par with committing genocide. But that’s not really the point is it? These days I know better than to steal.
It get a little rough. Purity of thought - Have you ever looked, even today, at someone else with sexual desires or with hatred? Have you ever taken God’s Name in vain, you know, using it like it means nothing.
Well duh! I’m male. Of course I have. I look at my lovely partner every day with sexual desires. He’s also male. And no, we’re not married – yet. Hatred…well, I suppose I have hated people. I’m not exactly a people-person. Most of the time I don’t waste my time actually hating. I get angry at them, frustrated with them…but hate? Nah. That takes too much energy…energy I could spend loving my friends and making love with my partner. Oh yeah! I’d rather do that. Well, except for taxi drivers, but everyone hates taxi-drivers right? As a group, I mean. I can’t say I’m personally acquainted with a specific taxi driver to hate. Does that count, or must it be a specific person? As for taking god’s name in vain…sure, I guess. Your god’s name means nothing to me, so why shouldn’t I? Of course, to me, your god doesn’t exist, so his name is just another name, like Andrew or Koos or Bugs Bunny.
If you’ve answered “Yes” to any of these (most of us will answer a resounding yes to all of them) then you’re a liar, a thief, an adulterer and a blasphemer at heart.
Oh. Well, I guess that clears that up then. By the way, is it adultery if I desire my partner while not actually being married to him? Do I get a free pass because I’m unmarried? It’s not as if I’m cheating on him…but if just desiring him alone makes me an adulterer, then I guess I’m cheating on him…with him. Okay, that makes no sense, but whatever.
And IF God exists and is Just, Righteous, Pure and Holy, and He judged you and finds you guilty, what should He do with you?
Well, first we need to establish that he exists. Personally I doubt that very much. But even if he did, he’ll just have to take a number. He’s not my god. My god is Coyote Trickster. And Kali. And Freya I’ll tell you what: if you want your god to punish me for my “sins”, why don’t you go pray to him and have him take it up with Freya? I’d be a little careful around Freya if I was your god though. She’s a little unpredictable, and she knows her way around a sword. Jesus might find himself a head shorter if he argues with her. You know how badly women can PMS.
The thing is, it doesn't matter whether you believe in God and sin and hell or not, the question is, “Is it true”. I haven’t seen a judge or the inside of a court with my own two eyes, does that mean that a judge or the court room does not exist? Imagine a criminal standing before that judge on earth and admitting his guilt yet at the same time telling the judge “I don’t believe you exist”. It doesn't make any difference what he believes. That criminal will go to jail, right? I hear you saying “But that is something tangible, something I can see”, but just because something is in the realm of faith and the unseen, doesn't mean that it’s true or not.
Quite right you are. Now why don’t you go ahead and prove that your unseen being is real and mine isn’t. Be very careful here, Plumsie. Kali is most unforgiving and she PMSes worse than Freya. Cross her and she might just decide to have you for lunch. She’ll take you off the wheel of life and then where will you be? You really don’t want that to happen, do you?
IFit’s true that God exists, whether you believe in Him or not, and He finds you guilty, you must be punished. You must go to hell because (and if you were honest enough about your…”goodness”) you’d know that you’re a law breaker. And the same thing would be true for everyone. Everybody deserves to go to hell because we’re law breakers.
Well, all that is of course supposing that your god is the real one. Personally, I think you’re deluded. Coyote Trickster LOVES his little jokes. Didn’t you know that he came to earth 2000 or so years ago and pretended to be god so he could trick millions into believing a false religion? My goodness, how gullible you are. He’s up there laughing at you right now. You don’t believe me? Well, that’s okay. You don’t have to. It’s true whether you believe it or not. You fell for his little trick and now you’re going to fall into Kali’s clutches. Poor, poor you.
Now, the Good News is that Jesus Christ is God. He’s the Judge and He is also God and He came to earth to be the sacrifice for your sins. God’s wrath was put on His Son, Jesus, to be the payment for your sins. You've broken God’s laws, but Jesus paid your fine, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. And if you will respond by repenting, agreeing with God that you’re not good, saying you’re sorry for your sins and turning from them, you don’t become perfect on the spot, but you have a new attitude about your lying, lusting, blasphemy and stealing. And you change your attitude about it. When you apologise and you put your trust in Jesus, the bible says that all of your sins will be forgiven and you’ll be granted everlasting life. Not because you’re a good person, but because you’re a bad person who’s been forgiven by a very good God. That’s the gospel.
No. Actually Freya is god. Well, goddess. So is Athena. With their guidance and nurturing, I’ve turned out okay. I haven’t killed anyone, or raped anyone, or deliberately went out of my way to hurt others, or stole from them, or committed genocide, or endorsed slavery or cheated on my partner (or my taxes), never raised my hand in violence against anyone (except once when I was ten and my friend was hounding me and I just hit him once and he NEVER hounded me again), never cheated on an exam, never pirated a movie or stole somebody’s parking space. I’m not a saint, but neither am I Hitler. I’m human, and Freya knows that. She likes me being human. It means I can learn from her to be better, and I can learn from Kali to kick a little ass every now and again, and from Athena to think better, and from Coyote Trickster to enjoy life. We are all here to learn. We don’t need saving. We’re not sinners. We’re just young and in need of seasoning.
Here’s what you need to think about today. What I've told you is either true, or it isn't. If it’s not true, you’re good to go…no worries. But if it is true, you will be judged by God. You should examine your heart – Where would you stand before Him? And if you start to think that you’ll be in big trouble, then Jesus is your Saviour if you’ll repent and put your trust in Him. is that fair enough? Again it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not, what matters is if it’s true. And if it’s true, it will involve you. So the question you need to answer today is this: Is the Christian gospel true or false for you. That’s all I can ask you to think.
Yeah well, I don’t find your argument convincing. If fear is your only motivation for believing, then I can’t call you a very courageous person. Freya admires courage. It’s one of the things I’m learning from her. You haven’t convinced me that your god is real. In fact, he sounds like a bit of a douche to me. Fact of the matter is…there’s nothing wrong with me. There’s nothing wrong with you either. You just THINK there is. Someone convinced you that you’re a horrible, worthless person, and that really makes me sad for you. I wish you’d look at yourself and see more than that in yourself. Every person has good qualities, and are worthy of life and of love, but if you rely on some external source to give you worth, then there’s probably not much hope for you.
Well, it’s been marvelous chatting with you, but right now, I have to go to bed. There’s some warm, loving arms waiting there for me. Take care now!
