This story of bond or no bond by President Zuma is getting to me. I'm thinking, there seems to be a trend of untruths or lies, if I'm allowed to say that, in this man's legacy.
Now we are faced wih the question that says; "Is he telling a white lie or blue lie". This will depend on the magnamity of the untruth. Let's debate this issue.
Mr Zuma has repeatedly shown that he cannot deal with thorny issues quickly. The painful part is that this tends to put him under more scrutiny and he does not seem to realize this. Is that his make up or the problem of his advisors. Hmmm, it makes you think.
When the alleged rape story broke, he initially wanted to deny it blaming a set up. Then came the details of the baby oil, the kanga and the after action shower. Again came the attempted spin on the meaning of the shower as it related to the woman's HIV status. Also remember that this was a man once heading the moral regeneration of the nation. Please help me, my respect of him is waning at this point.
We also had to deal with his relationship with Shabir Shaik. Were there corrupt deals or not? Did money change hands or not? Shaik was released for a "fong kong" illness, probably concocted with his blessings. Where is Shaik now, will he admit that he knows what is happening? No definitely not.
When Juju became sizzling hot against his opponents, he used to smile and cheer him on at rallies.The camera never lies. Julius was encouraged to kill any snake that tried to raise its poor head. Remember how Zuma likened Mbeki to a dead snake in one of his speeches after the many court appearances. The other day he spoke rosy about Mbeki, what a lie. No wonder Mbeki did not attend. Can he claim that he was misqouted? Make up your own mind.
He did accuse Mbeki of using state machinery against him. Is he not doing the same against Juju? What about the illusive spy tapes? The same tactics have literally lifted him into power. Ironically he still wants to use the same state machinery to have a second bite at the leadership cherry so to speak.
On the "Compund" issue, why did he not come up front to say here is my bond. Did it have to go through suspicion, speculation and investigation first, before he could say something about this festering sore point.
Mr President, you are hurting our intelligence as a nation.
Who is going to repair all this damage? My advice is that he should step down with what little dignity or respect he has left.
In closing, I propose that he should go for a polygraph test as a prerequisite for a second term. Maybe it will show a little white lie or pronounce a big blue lie. This Nation is bigger than anything that the President is. We must not allow a situation where he takes us down with him.
