Once upon a time when my late father was still on his full swing and I was doing grade 9, I took my savings and bought myself Long walk to Freedom. While I was reading it I thought to myself but why is my dad a firm supporter of the IFP (though we not from Nkandla, we pedi’s from Limpopo) because we have very good leaders in the ANC, before I scratch my head to baldness he answered that question for me, he said “my child I love Mandela and what he did for this country but trust me when I tell you that the South Africa you are looking at today will be totally different in 10 years’ time”. I didn’t get it then.
11 years later I completely understand what he was really saying to me. Let us look at the unfolding of events in South Africa today, the freedom of speech that was highly fought for:
a) Everything that is said, our “beloved” ANC says it is an attack to them, I don’t want to say anything about the ANCYL because they are just rebellious beings who are always high (wonder if they got any from Lance), I don’t think they know what is it that they exactly stand for because there is no way I can tell someone from Cape Verde with a 500 000 population that there are people of this nature representing us (youth);
b) A guilty conscience or should I say a cANCer affected conscience is always on the lookout for redemption or always on alert to defend itself against what it calls pollution (our views pollute the air they breathe);
c) People wonder why we prefer to purchase our DSTV’s to watch what the world has to offer and why we love Etv so much (for some of us who cannot afford DSTV, Etv is all we have), it is simple, SABC belongs to the government (ANC). We all know how much strong views Sakina Kamwendo has but hearing her broken on national radio because she couldn’t interview political analysts and journalists before Mangaung as according to our “beloved” ANC, a representative was supposed to be invited to “protect” the image and state true events. Since when are we not allowed to raise our views without a representative of the mother body, they should know we are allowed to talk about them anytime, anywhere we want. We pay their salaries;
d) Now let’s go to the recent events, the FNB advert, I love that bank and Steve as well and I appreciate their recent advert in using young people, though I was expecting more from all the anticipation and hype they created around it, I also appreciate the fact that ANC again thought it was an attack to them. I cannot wait for Nandos to come up with a follow up with their peri peri chicken, I have a tagline for you Nandos “My beloved ANC, as a young person I can see every view said makes you a bit colder, try our peri peri chicken, though each person will need a full chicken, we will cater for all including Khulubese”; and
e) Then the most pressing issue of them all, the secrecy bill act (CANNED), this is a public and most effective way of saying “shut up, we will use your tax money as we please and you guys have no place in saying anything”. The secrecy bill will treat us like children who don’t know whether they like the color black or white because they know no difference. The secrecy bill will make our journalists feel like they are on candid camera, while on the other hand Donald Trump will say “you are fired”, all they will hear is “you are arrested (CANNED).
I just hope I will not be like FNB where I have to explain myself on why I say the things I say but government must learn to understand that we have our views and during my times of high school I didn’t only know 30% of my work, though I was expected to know 45%, I made sure I knew more than 70% of my work in every subject. This is not an attack on our education system, it is my view on how pathetic this country have become. I feel like that is how our journalists and marketing guru’s will be doing in the next couple of years, explaining their views as I am now (though I am not a journalist but I feel like one right now).
South Africa is a laughing stock to the rest of the world, a strike every 2 days, burning libraries, school and your work places…our president said SA needs to slaughter some cows to wash away the bad things that had been happening but I say if slaughtering does work, let us work together and contribute to the slaughtering for better brains to lead us. I HAVE BEEN CANNED by lack of words and the use of the European language “Engrish”.
