The ANC are beginning to sound – and even look - more and more like Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF and I’m wondering if maybe they don’t have the same objectives in mind, using similar tactics.
They are insecure with respect to any opposition – considering the statements emanating from their talking head, Jackson Mthembu, regarding Mamphele Ramphele’s initiative – they are inept – as we all know – they seem preoccupied with their own safety – as in Nkandla, the blue lights and bodyguards – and they are obviously overly well fed – given what they looked like at the President’s SONA last week.
If you consider the above merely coincidences, which they admittedly could be, then consider that Cyril Ramaphosa is also our new de facto Prime Minister, a position held in Zim by Morgan Tsvangirai, a ZANU outcast now being used to bring legitimacy to the government and also instrumental in attempting to get sanctions lifted.
Consider also that Mugabe targeted farms and thereafter industry as he tightened his grip on the country, and consider also the methods he used to do so. Farm attacks, militia formations, 51% of all companies handed over, condemnation of the west, friendliness towards the Chinese, etc, etc.
In fact the ANC elite could easily be transposed with Mugabe’s faithful elite, the ones who’ve turned Zimbabwe into a basket case in 30-odd years, this after it was known as the bread basket of Africa before he got his greedy little paws on the treasury, farms and economy.
Methinks we may be having the same problem here.
In fact I’m surprised that Jacob hasn’t yet made a move on Grace as she’s going to be sitting pretty when old Bob finally falls over.
Maybe he has, who knows, as it would make sense both financially and from an alliance perspective and we know that the ANC are really into alliances, especially with somebody – anybody - who can bring votes in.
Consider too that about half of the Zimbabwean population now live in SA, and they probably by now all have SA citizenship, and the whole scenario isn’t that impossible.
Perhaps we are seeing the resurrection of the old Zulu empire - through an alliance between the Zulus, the Shona and the Matabele - and then Zuma’s declaration that the ANC plan to rule until the second coming isn’t so far fetched at all.
Maybe we’ve underestimated the man, and his visions.
