In recent weeks, I have been bemused by the marriage of political statements made by members of the ruling party, with reference to God, Jesus, the Leprechaun and tooth fairy.
I'm sure we're all very familiar with the statement once made by JZ, that the ANC will rule until Jesus comes.
The next gem which I still can't help snorting at, was the statement that "To walk with Zuma, is like walking with God".
Then yesterday, embattled ex-police chief Bheki Cele, lambasted Thuli Madonsela stating that "She must stop acting like God". He also took issue with how people are praising her for her efforts in bringing to light the Nkandla scandal, saying "She is being worshiped as if she was Jesus from Jerusalem".
I've come to expect nothing less from the ruling party. When they cannot meet fact with fact, these political figure heads resort to cheap and nasty insults.
If you go back in history to Medieval times, it was common practice for royalty and noblemen, to pay their church large sums of money. This would ensure that they were seated much higher in the church than all the peasants and paupers.
It was believed that by sitting higher in the church, they were closer to God and their sins would receive absolute atonement with priority.
This is where the word "Despotic", originated from. The royalty and noblemen could commit any crime and not have to account for any of them. It was under decree that royalty were only answerable for their sins to God.
Now, in fairness to the religious and non-religious demographics in our country, not all believe in a higher power. Others do not recognize Jesus as the savior. There are about a million different beliefs.
If the ANC had any respect for our multi-cultural nation, these religious touts would have no space on any political forum.
Every bit of corruption exposed within the ANC and it's branches have hardly ever been met with accountability.
I guess we're moving back to the Medieval times then, since our ruling politicians have become merciless, corrupt despots.
