I have never hidden my religious views from anyone, because I believe in tolerance. Tolerance does not mean I can't mock bat... crazy ideas, It does not mean I should have to listen to preaching or be polite to people knocking on my door to give me good news. This article was inspired by the fact that a long standing acquaintance fully conversant with my thoughts about religion decided that now would be a good time to send me a 300 word essay about how much God cares about me.
I have been busy with a fundraiser to ensure my daughters continued education, which I am happy to say we have done successfully. During said fundraiser she told me that her God spoke to her and told her what we were doing was wrong. He didn't want me to it. She felt I should stop mocking God, It went as far as telling me that I should tell her invisible friend how peeved I was at him. Well I want to report that this god sitting here typing kicked her God's ass all over the internet and won. Despite her God being anti me raising the money, I did in in less than two weeks. So much for her all knowing, ever present smiter of those that mock him.
Her God told her I should humble myself and pray and God would provide. Well reality is a female dog that will slap you about the head, I recall a fellow called Herman that was convinced God would provide. He spent days on his knees begging God for a solution to his woes, but he still ended up being evicted. The Landlords God must have had more Mojo because the judge agreed that Herman was a deadbeat that should pay his bills.
I took Herman and his family in and got to the point where I explained to Herman that I was not God and would not provide. 3 days later he had a job, because he got off his knees and went seeking. The good book says seek and ye shall find. Herman seeked and found. "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you" Matthew 7:7 I also followed the writings of the good book when I asked and received. I did not manipulate, bully or threaten anyone with hell, I merely told my story and asked for assistance.
It was given freely and with love. It was accepted gratefully and in humility. I am humbled by the generosity of spirit, the help and the love my family was shown in our time of need. The negative comments all came from Ladies who quoted scripture on their various profiles and some even quoted it at me. The love was offered by all even those without scripture on their profiles.
I want to go into a deal with you, Keep your religious views to yourself, Pray in your churches, synagogues, mosques and even your bat caves if you must. I won't mock your beliefs or your Gods as long as you are not forcing me to hear them.
Don't suggest prayer in public meetings and I won't ask for prayers for Zeus, Amon Ra and the Sun God. Don't write articles on public website advocating your witchery and bigotry and I promise not to mock your Gods, your insane beliefs and the faeries and unicorns.
I don't send you Private Messages telling you that you are nutty as a fruitcake and try and convince you to join the sect that I currently espouse. Why would you do that to me? I enjoy public debate as much as the next person, but seriously if you continue repeating the same words over and over, they will not become any more real the next time around. As I understand it her God wanted my wife to become ill, wanted me to almost lose my fingers, wanted my business to fail to teach me humility. If he is real, he is a psychopath.
You don't win friends by upsetting them, you win them by making them happy. Most of all you don't punish their children because you don't like them. I trust that your God is not a schizophrenic monster that demands that you judge your fellow man. I also hope you are not hearing his voice telling you to speak to me about him. If he is speaking to you directly please seek professional help. Hearing voices is an indicator that you have a real problem. "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." Mahatma Gandhi was wrong not all Christians are Unlike Christ some are even better than Christ, but the holier than thou breed that we run into most often scare the living daylights out of me.
