Addicted to Sugar

IT’S ENOUGH ALREADY!

 All the nonsense that the diet industry feeds you about guaranteed ways to lose weight like diet pills or shakes to leaving out entire food groups are not only lies but can be very hazardous to your health.  This industry is a multi million dollar industry so why would they risk losing all that money by telling you the truth.  Not since ‘world war 2’ has there been so much propaganda! I've done extensive research (mainly for myself) in the quest to find something that would help me shift my excess weight permanently and I have found it!

If you are looking for a book that has all the scientific facts that can support the research or ‘lack of’ research  then I would suggest you read “Why We Get Fat” by Gary Taubes, he is a science journalist and has compiled some truly fascinating facts figures and information. We need to understand why we picked up weight in the first place, why every ‘diet’ that you go on seems to fail, but most of all I want to tell you the truth about what we are eating without even realizing it that is keeping us overweight!

So lets us start with simple words, that as a dieter I am sure you all know, like ‘Calories’. I am not going to compare “good calories” and “bad calories” because there is no such thing. A calorie is just a unit of measure of  energy and has absolutely NOTHING to do with why you get fat. I am sure if you ask any ‘expert’ how to lose weight they will come back with ‘calories in’ versus ‘calories out’ in other words you need to eat less than your body needs to use up in energy, or you need to exercise more than you eat… What a load of crap!!!

This theory has been around for quite some time, so how is it possible that in spite of there being more health clubs and gyms and so many more ‘low fat’ products on our shelves that FAT is on the increase.

How is it that we cannot lose weight???

Haven’t you just had enough of those Doctors, Dietitians, Nutritionists in fact all the smart ‘qualified’ people that tell you “if you just ate less you would lose weight” or “if you exercised more you could shift the weight” or “you are fat because you are lazy” or “where is your will power” I could go on and on and I am sure you could add some of your own to these. It is time to take a stand against all this nonsense we are being fed and get down to the real reason why we can lose weight but never keep it off, or even why we can’t lose weight in the first place.

The first place we start is a CALORIE RESTRICTED DIET DOES NOT WORK! Only 5% of people who lose weight will successfully keep it off. FACT! The diet industry should be ashamed of themselves with these statics! Ah, I am sure at this stage you are thinking “yes of course I did lose weight when I joined Weight Watchers and I lost” well yes of course you did but if you are reading this now then it means that you did not manage to keep that weight off, right?  You probably feel real bad about that too, thinking “how did I manage to get down to my ideal weight only to start and pick it up again” Don’t beat up on yourself see, I have been there and boy does it take a knock on your self-esteem. 

I remember when I hit menopause saying to my ‘gynie’ that I had read an article about women who take a hormone replacement tend to pick up weight, and his answer to me was “you only pick up weight with whatever passes your lips” once again WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!

Because of year of brain washing we buy into the whole diet industry world of propaganda when they say “if you are this height you should be this weight”, or the new one that came out in this century of BMI (for me “Bl**dy  mindless information”) if you think you need to lose weight you do not need for someone else (who looked at a chart) to tell you as much! You already know, and it should not be because you compared yourself to someone else. 

The first thing we need to ask ourselves is not “what must I eat less of in order to lose weight” but “what can I eat more of to lose that fat”  

No two faces are the same, this of course we all know, so why when it comes to diets why do the ‘diet experts’ advertise that “this is guaranteed to work” It is all about you as the “individual” unique person that you are, what will work for you and what wont. For myself I know that eating the way Tim Noakes has suggested has shifted my excess weight. I have more energy and never feel starving between meals like I used to on previous diets, but this I know for sure for everyone who has picked up weight has the same problem

IT IS NOT ‘FAT’ THAT MAKES YOU FAT, IT IS ‘SUGAR’

If you look on Wikipedia they suggest that ‘sugar’ might be the new gateway drug and they compare it to  cannabis (whackatabacky, boom, joint, weed, marijuana, pot, dope, zol) whatever you know it as, which is the gateway drug for cocaine and heroin,  which by the way as we all know are illegal in our country and you could spend a very long time in jail if caught with one of these. How is it possible then that everywhere you look (and even places you do not look) we are exposed to this ‘sweet stuff’ with government approval?

Just go along with me for the moment that sugar or ‘sweet stuff’ is the enemy. Most people I have asked will agree with this statement.  But often times people say “oh but if I could only stop eating sweets  and chocolate”  or “I stopped taking sugar in my coffee years ago”.  Well it is not the sugar that you can see that is the only problem it is the ‘hidden’ sugar that we should be concerned about.  The worldwide obesity epidemic started at much the same time as when ‘low fat’ products hit our supermarket shelves, in the 1960’s. If you take out the ‘fat’ (and yes I am talking about animal saturated fat,  you are taking out the good stuff that makes food tasty, makes us satisfied and keeps us feeling fuller for longer, so you have to replace it with something else to enhance the flavour… 

Enter SUGAR / SWEET STUFF!

If you Google the words  ‘sweetener’ you will get about 50 different varieties, some of them words we recognize and some of the not.  If you do not know how to read a label then you could be eating a ‘low fat’ product thinking this is a better choice for your current diet and every time becoming more and more addicted.
