With all the talk about the banning of cigarette advertising and now the talk about banning alcohol advertising I thought that I would have my 2 cents worth!
Can we also ban religious advertising???? I find it more offensive and dangerous than any of the above. What are these “churches” trying to do? Why do they need to advertise or are they making so much money that they can afford to spend 10’s of thousands of Rand’s on marketing asking people to give more money? If I see one more sign that says “Jesus Saves” and “give to God” I am going to puke!!! I think it is sick that these “churches of Christ” feel the need to be so in your face, what happened to religion being something you just believed in, why do you need to advertise your belief? Why do you feel the need to use these adverts to “convert” people to give you more money?
In my opinion these adverts do more harm than cigarette and alcohol advertising combined!! Has the world not learnt that religion is the largest cause of WAR and is probably responsible for more deaths than any cigarette company or alcohol company?? I have been in advertising for a very long time now and my company has always had the rule that we will never allow religion on any of our advertising mediums as it only makes people angry and aggressive!
I have no issue with anyone’s religion, I personally do not believe in God but you can believe in whatever you want just don’t plaster it all over the place (Its funny how it is always these individual Christian “Churches” that place the advertising up, they may as well just put banking details on the signs and say “Give to us and be Saved”)
Anyway, my point to this article is that if there is going to be a ban on Alcohol advertising which is going to have a HUGE financial impact on the media world then you must also place a ban of Religious advertising because it is one day going to end up causing violence and ultimately more harm to the country then alcohol advertising.
Just remember, Jesus Saves.......If you pay!
