I was happy when AgangSA was launched on the 22nd of June this year. This is because as a voter I am looking for a political home and the more relevant parties there are out there, the better.
I have looked at the ruling party and although they have good policies they haven’t been able to implement most of them because of factors like laziness, corruption and political infighting. The other thing with the ruling party is that they promise to give me food parcels and I am not interested in being fed for 5 days and stay hungry for 4 years and 360 days, I want to be able to buy my own food. This simply means that I need a job and for me to get a job I need to be well educated and to be educated I need all the support structures or basic needs as Abraham Maslow calls them and those are food, water and shelter.
After the ruling party is the official opposition the DA or the Democratic ANC (nowadays they sound like the ANC). They claim that they are excellent and have a good track record. From a distance one will agree that they are, but a closer look reveals some disgusting facts about it. Take for an example, the World’s largest refugee centre called Cape Town. I call it a refugee centre, not because of Hellen Zille’s statement about South Africans from the Eastern Cape but, because of all the people from overseas who live happily in Cape Town and enjoy more privileges than the South Africans. The town and its suburbs are world class, but take a drive to Joe Slovo and Dunoon townships in Milnerton and you will see a completely different story.
You do not have to be in Cape Town to understand why I don’t like this party. In Gauteng the party is campaigning with the “know your DA” slogan, a complete insult to black people’s intelligence. First they use Mandela in their posters as if he belonged to the DA, fact is he a member of the ANC. Then they make a U-turn on the policies that they opposed for 20 years. On the second phase of the campaign they claimed they support BEE. After this announcement they got tongue tied trying to explain what they mean by this. Within a few days after making this statement, their federal chairman, Wilmot James, immediately ditched the policy. He said the that the DA isn’t into racial bean-counting, and that if it was to win the 2014 national general elections, it would immediately rewrite the laws and economic codes that pertain to BEE, so as to remove references to race.
Your Party came into the political arena and people got excited. Most people got excited because your party unlike most new parties was not formed out of anger like COPE and the EFF. It is not a party of political rejects but a party that promises a fresh start for the country.
It was announced that you will be roping in some big guns from America to help you with the campaign. We know that this team helped Barack Obama win the 2008 elections and their strategy was mainly using the internet through his site and such sites as YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook. I don’t know whether they have started or not but looking at the party’s website tells me that they haven’t started or they are not doing a great job at all. If one compares your website to that of another newcomer Julius Malema’s EFF, one sees a great difference. EFF’s website outclasses yours six love. Their website is simple and everything is straight to the point, one can tell that a lot of time and effort was spent on building it.
The EFF’s policies are straight forward and they do not focus on the mistakes of the current government, for an example a look at your policies on Education. The EFF clearly states what it wants to do and how it is going to do it and on some instances have time frames allocated. Your policy on Education can be summarised as follows, Aim High, Put students first, fill teacher vacancies, upgrade infrastructure, set minimum standards and top-up social grants for education results. Your policy on Education is contained in 18 lines and EFF’s policy in six paragraphs of no less than seven lines each.
If you are to win votes using the internet then your website needs a fresh new look or else send those Americans packing they are just wasting your money.
I watch television and listen to the radio and I do not see or hear you. That I can’t say is your fault as you do not have control over what is being broadcast. The point I am trying to make here is that you need to be seen and heard. You once visited and area that is less than 5 km from where I live but I never saw one poster or even hear people talk about your visit. It’s only after you left that a few people talked about your visit. Being heard and seen especially for a new politician like you is very important. I mean even Julius Malema is more visible and vocal than you.
Mama Ramphele are we still building?
