Yesterday a lady posted an article with statistics to show that Jesus really is the Promised Messiah.
Well, today, I am going to bring you back to earth a bit and show that it is virtually impossible that there is a god who would have died for our sins...sorry about that.
Ok, let's start.
The Universe is a extraordinary large place with an extraordinary number of galaxies, starts, planets, black holes and so on.
Exactly how large is impossible to find out with our current human technology. However, do not despair because scientists have made quite (I think) accurate guesses.
At http://www.universetoday.com/24328/how-many-stars/ they have the figures of some guesses made and the figures are truly mind-boggling.
Quoted:
Galaxies, on average have between 100 billion and 1 trillion stars.
The Universe contains between 100 billion and 1 trillion galaxies.
Multiplying these together give us the approximate number of stars in the universe which is
between 10 sextillion and 1 septillion stars. That is between 10 to the power of 22 and 10 to the power of 24.
Now the number of planets can be up to 10 times that as a star is the same as our sun and if we assume each have about 10 planets.
To bring that into perspective I am going to compare it with the earth population. There are roughly 7 billion people on earth today but to make the calculations easier I am going to increase that and assume that there are 10 billion people on earth. For the universe I am going to use the lower figures namely 100 billion stars per galaxy and 100 billion galaxies.
So, for each person on earth today there are approximately 10 galaxies containing 100 billion stars each which gives the the grand total of 1000 billion stars per person or 1 trillion stars per person. Using the 10 x ratio per star we come to the conclusion that there are about 10 trillion planets per person or to put that more clearly about 10 000 000 000 000 planets for every single person on earth.
Now, the christians want us to be believe that we are the centre of the universe and everything rotates around us but nothing can be further from the truth.
The following is quoted from
http://www.ehow.com/about_4601181_earths-place-galaxy.html
"In terms of distance, the Milky Way is some 100,000 light years from one end to the other. The Earth is about 28,000 light years from the center of the galaxy, and about 20 light years "above" the plane of the galaxy. To better understand the distances involved, one light year (as a measure of distance) is 9.5 trillion kilometers, or about 5.9 trillion miles. The galaxy itself is relatively flat, like a disk or frisbee. When scientists say that the earth is 20 light years "above" the plane of the galaxy, they mean that it is about 118 trillion miles away from a direct line along the galaxy's disk, but in astronomical terms, that is not very far. Additionally, there are several "arms" of the galaxy, and the Earth is located in the Orion arm.
Some people still believe, as theologians and scientists did until the 17th century, that the Earth is the center of the galaxy. Seventeeth-century astronomer Galileo Galilei used mathematics to prove that not only does the earth revolve around the sun, but that the earth was not at the center of the universe. For his theories, the Catholic Church persecuted him, forcing him to recant his assertion."
Now, the christians say we are so important that god would send his only son to be crucified by people where the planets outnumber these people at least 10 trillion to 1. I say...impossible. We are so small and insignificant that we can forget about any god who can create all this to give his only son so that we can kill him. It is totally and absolutely ridiculous.
If there is a god that created the universe, he would definately not have a special soft spot for us tucked away 14 billion light years from where he started. Like my pappy used to say "You are living in a Fools' paradise"
And if you think he made a universe where the planets outnumber us 10 trillion to one all for our sake then I can only quote you what our houseworker, Bettie, used to say...Aikhona.
