Now we all know that the Prisons in our country are at the brink of bursting at the seams with over populated cells throughout all the prisons in our Country !
We the tax payers have to contribute through taxes to keep them behind bars and feed them and educate them at great expense to the state. Many of the prisoners are not capable of being rehabilitated to be integrated into society once again and to be given a second chance in life and to make a difference in their lives? But that is a whole story on it's own ! I would like to suggest the following, thanks to a good friend of mine, who happens to own a farm, who made this suggestion being a Farm owner.
The suggestion is : Why not use all the prisoners throughout South Africa to earn their stay behind bars, receiving good meals and free education while serving out their sentences, to be used for their labour by clearing up all ALIEN VEGETATION that harms the environment and the livestock each day. We are referring to the following trees for example...............The Lantana trees - Tiny flowers with many thorns, Bug Weed which kills cattle and the Ink Berry trees (highly poisonous). The prisoners can actually volunteer to be used for this purpose to clear up all the above trees and many more that pose a problem continually for Farmers and livestock. At the same time they will get to enjoy the outdoors and sun, knowing they had a hand to play in helping the environment, Cattle and Farmers from these ALIEN Trees ! The prisoners who volunteer can in return earn CREDITS for their labour which will work in their favour once up for parole??
This is just one method of using our Prisoners to serve the State and society for their transgressions !
The Government can save MILLIONS by using the prisoners to do the work that the Municipalities continue to FAIL at miserably !
