Yesterday, I made a decision that I would no longer debate my faith in God and Jesus with anyone.
I realised that there is no point and these kinds of debates always end in division and not unity, and in actual fact, these kinds of debates do the complete opposite of what was intended. We are called to tell people the Good News, but that is it. We are not called to force our beliefs onto people, and whether they choose to believe what has been shared or not is ultimately not up to us.
In 2 Timothy 2:23-26 the Apostle Paul tells us this:
“23 Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. 24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25 Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. 26 Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.”
Paul doesn’t offer much hope that all who hear will accept the truth, but rather uses the word “(Perhaps) God will change those peoples hearts”
In these discussions, many Christians who are not meant to judge and who are rather meant to be loving, actually end up doing more damage to Christianity, because these kinds of stupid arguments lead to anger.
These kinds of debates that offend and cause anger are the lure of Satan. The perfect bait to hook a Christian into losing his cool and being the complete opposite of what Christ expects of us.
Luke 17:1 Jesus says: “Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!”
So we as Christians should not offend others and we should know that offense will always come, as we are following the truth, and Satan hates it. Attack will always come, and Jesus even told us that we will be persecuted… even more so in the end times. And just look around the world, at how Christians are being killed and ridiculed and persecuted.
In Matthew 26:31 Jesus tell us that all of us will be offended. Offense will always come, but it is how we as Christians react that will set us apart.
Matthew 26:31 “31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.”
All of us will be offended. Every one of us. Christians are even offended by other Christians, because of silly disagreements. That is why there are so many different denominations. But it is all the greatest lure and trick of Satan, in order to get people to fall, and to get people to turn others away from Jesus.
So from today, I vow, to spread the good news, but to never push my views or argue back regarding what is true or not.
I have a personal relationship with Jesus, and I know Him like I know my own wife or children. I know His name holds great power, as I have seen demons flee or go crazy at the mention of His name! No one can take what I know away from me.
All Christians should do the same, and stop arguing and being a bad example of Jesus Christ. After all God is Love!
