Am I Gay? Or is it just your miserable memes?

03 March 2014, 14:43

The Ugandan homophobic travesty of recent weeks is just another twitch in the hysterical fundamentalist kneejerk reaction to human rights, to the right of individuals to freely live out their own sexual preferences with another consenting adult.

Of course, the loonie-right has attacked my defense of decency with its standard arsenal of confused logic and outdated dogma.

In my previous article, Are You Deviant About (Homo)Sex?, I explore in great detail how and why the Abrahamic religious mind virus became so overcome by with homophobia (and misogyny and racism – all in one delightful packet).  Of course, I freely point out that all of the details in that essay were drawn from the syllabus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s “History of Humankind” anthropological course.

The knuckle-draggers have of course launched their most potent weapon against me and others – suggesting that if I or we defend gay rights, I/we must secretly be gay.

Hmmmm… does defending rights – gay rights – morph me into that which I defend…. Gay?

I honestly considered this possibility for a moment and came to the conclusion that their assertion could indeed be true – Afterall, I stand up against anti-semitism, apartheid, and on behalf of women – and I’m certain that these affiliations are transubstantiating me into a re’jew’venated-black-female.

Such is the magical world that the superstitious mind inhabits that many of the low-brows here may take me literally; so, I had better point out that this is not literally true.  Ha-ha-ha…  Relax, boys and girls – it is a little grappie; Alas, no, although I am very joyous, gay I am not; I’m a white-straight-rational male.

So – if I’m not gay, why do I defend gay rights?

You see - I appreciate my freedom to be sexually stimulated at the sight or thought of what it is that ‘does’ it for me – and I am very fortunate that that something is the opposite gender, and that aligns with the majority – apparently 90% - of other males.  Phew.

Now – I used to be just like you – red-blooded male, yapping my mouth off about the fags and aping their feminine movements or other identifiers.  It was all chest-beatingly exciting to be a ‘real’ man – and express it.

And then a funny thing happened – I grew up.  In growing up I got an education; it made me gentler and more kindly – you know, more like Jesus; except without all the superstitious overtones and powerful dad.

My education taught me a few things.  One of the practical things it taught me was how it could be that every homosexual on the planet was bred by a heterosexual liason.  How… I wondered… could it be that homosexuality would not be naturally selected out of the gene-pool if their inability to procreate was, per definition, a disadvantage?  And that’s the thing with education; it delivers into your head the distilled, considered, and painstakingly understood processes borne of evidence that you’ll never think of if you don’t expose yourself to the experts.  It puts aside dogma and the mindless sledge-hammer sentiments still traveling from the Bronze Age warmongers.

So, here it is – my gift to you today – a meme to undo the bigoted memes I once shared with you regarding why homosexuality remains with us despite the dreadful societal costs to the individual when s/he must live amongst yobs.  Please do like me and cast off your angry small mindedness in favour of a kinder, more accurate and less foolish outlook:

Homosexuality evolved in us humans and is perpetuated by heterosexual breeding because humans are social creatures - weak as individuals, strong as groups.  Re-read that – it is important: Weak as individuals, strong as groups.

For 500,000 and more generations, we lived in small groups as hunter gatherers.  In that context, every male in the group is critical for hunting and safety.  But males (the alphas – and this could be you Mr. Beer Belly) typically want more than their share of females.  This is good for the tribe because the alpha-genes tend to dominate in competition with other tribes.

So... There is a dilemma - more males equals better group success, but greatly raises internal friction and strife between members.

Homosexuality in some percentage of males reduces the competition for females - it allows male contribution without raising group strife (until of course, superstition got its hold through religious wingnuts), and it allowed the alphas to get to have their disproportionate share of females (think Zuma – we need at least 5, or is it 6(?) gay males just to counterbalance his appetite).

So, there it is – as always, the truth sets not just you free (free of your bigotry), but frees individuals to be happy with their mate-choices (which have nothing to do with you in the first place!), and frees natural selection to do its thing.

Besides – have you taken a good look at the average gay? He’s better looking, in much better shape, and probably richer than you anyway – you’re better off with him not competing with you for females.

How to create long term wealth fo...

I believe, in the real world, life actually follows reasonable principles. Despite the baffle and Bull, the short term push and pull, even exploitation, eventually the multitude of forces kicks you back to reality. For us that simply means, if as a country we want to grow, we have to invest.  Read more...
