The new 21st century atheist would gladly love to live in a world where there is no religion at all. Imagine that. Would such a world even be appealing to begin with? What evidence is there that a universal atheistic world would lead to a better one than the one we live in right now? Has it even been tried before and what happened to it? lack of recognition of an ultimate judge of moral actions and a judge who sets injustice aright in his last judgement, and thus do not recognize the immorality of murder. lack of seeing the importance of human beings as images of God and so easily discarding them as merely material things, products of mere chance. lack of acknowledging an external standard of morality, thus ending up with self-created standards which can include the killing for political survival. absence of guidance by divine revelation of the moral law, such as "Thou shall not kill",etc. following an ethic of atheist evolutionism that is based on the survival and victory of the fittest, which is ultimately a "bloodthirsty ethic", that is an ethic that is eager to kill and to maim others.
1.Khmer Rouge of Cambodia.
Most of us remember this brutal regime in Cambodia that ruled from 1975 to 1979.In a space of just 4 years the UN estimated that this Regime have massacred more than 2.5million of its own people. And why? Because Khmer Rouge leader,Pol Pot, wanted to establish a godless Marxist State or a state where there would only be atheist in it. He succeeded in isolating Cambodia from the rest of civilized society, abolished the use of money in the country, confiscated privately owned properties that belonged to others and wanted to turn the country into an agrarian utopia. His worse atrocity was the S21 jail in Phnom Penh were he'd murdered 20,000 men, women and children from academcs, doctors, teachers, students, factory workers, monks, engineers, etc. Many others died from starvation, diseases, exhaustion or others doing back-breaking work. Gladly it all ended in 1979 when Vietnamese troops toppled his regime. The movie "The Killing Field" describe the plight and horrors Cambodians went through under Khmer Rouge's atheist rule.
2.USSR under Joseph Stalin and his Great Purge.
Under the rule of Joseph Stalin tens of million were brutally executed and his "great purge" is seen by historians as the worst gendercide of the 20th century. Some say it was as if a demonic spark took hold in him and caused Stalin to callously disregard all human life. Its true that these mass murders of Stalin cannot be directly be attributed to atheism. However it does show that a world where atheist ruled, peace and harmony amongst its citizens was never ensured.
3.Atheist Mao Zedong.
The former leader of the Communist Party in China, killed 38 million people through famine alone during his Great Leap Forward idea between 1959-61.The Washington Post wrote of Mao Zedong in 1994:"Evidence shows that he in some way were responsible for at least 80 million deaths. This figure comes from the System Reform Institute, which was led by Zhao Ziyang,a former communist party chief under Zedong.
Yes religious leaders and some religious people as we know it has an atrocious history themselves and has caused many human suffering, but so did atheist. Does it mean that when religion does such bad things that God is ultimately to blame for it? Hardly!
The same way a car manufacturer cannot be blamed for an accident that was caused by a driver using his/her cell phone whilst he/she was driving. Human suffering has many causes, one of which is more fundamental that your or my belief system. Our human inclination is to rationalize and gravitate to our beliefs as an excuse to do what deem as right and which can be wrong.
For an atheist a "No God" world simply means "no accountability to a divine authority",as well as "no objective values which he/she are obligated to respect",so writes law professor Phillip Johnson. Morality then becomes relative, with each person deciding his/her own standards,if he/she chooses to have any such.
Why would atheist then want to mass murder others?
Historical records indicates that collective atheism is 182 716 times worse off in infamous misdeeds on an annual basis than Christianity's ever was. Or to put it in another way ATHEISM is 18.3 million percent worse than any predation ever committed by Christians in things like the Crusades or the Inquisition even though atheist killer regimes has had less time and 1/20th the number of opportunities to do so.
Whether or not a religious leader has ever committed such large scale vile atrocities I can't say for sure. One thing is certain, Mao Zedong,Stalin, Pol Pot,to name but a few of these criminals, were the worst murderously inclined atheist than the lot put together. History also indicates that an atheist leader has a 68% chance of murdering a noticeable size of his own population than any other leader.
Also to bear in mind is that,Nazi lunatic,Adolf Hitler, once said:"One is either a Christian or a German. You cannot be both." To Hitler religion was an obstacle in gaining absolute power. The Nazi's developed their own quasi-religious prayers, festivals, baptism and burial services when they were in power.
English philosopher Bertrand Russell concluded:"Every kind of religious belief would die out." To this man the removal of religion from our world is the lasting and probably the only solution to a better world. He seems to forget that those that rejects religion are just as hateful and intolerant than those who advocates it. As our history has shown us that this is the case.
