I write this letter out of sheer frustration and also disappointment. I will deal with both of those statements very soon. First I would like to mention whom Esethu Hasane, is. Esethu is a young man who studies at UCT. He is an undergraduate and his major is Public Policy and Administration. He is also a writer for News 24’s VOICES category.
You can have a look at his profile here:
Now let me begin my stating why I am frustrated. I am frustrated that a young South African can have so much anger, I am frustrated that he constantly writes articles for thousands to read in which he criticizes every political party instead of the ANC. I find it frustrating that this young man has never written a holistic article in which he criticizes the ANC government.
Think about that for a second... every single thing the ANC has done wrong has escaped this man's attention. Twenty-seven articles and all of them discussing race or criticizing opposition parties. Let me list the headings of some of his articles:
· The Apartheid mentality of saying ANC voters are uneducated.
· More proof of DA’s mismanagement of Cape Town.
· The Black-Middle Class suffers amnesia.
· Dear White South Africans.
· DA wants Gauteng so to protect Apartheid beneficiaries.
· Helen Zille and the city of Cape Town care less about the poor.
· Black South Africans can still blame Apartheid.
· Jacob Zuma “Mr. Delivery
The above are just a few examples of what you can expect when you read Esethu’s articles. When you do in fact read his articles please take note of the comment section below his articles, please have a read through them and tell me what you think.
I look at Esethu and I am truly confused. He writes his columns with false information provided by his source and when commentators correct him he follows up with another article with the same source. My confusion grows even further when I read his articles and see how he criticizes the Western Cape government.
No one is saying the DA is perfect but the fact that he overlooks the ANC’s daily corruption in order to criticize the DA confuses me profusely. He also firmly believes that DA supporters think black people are stupid as is pointed out in his latest article “Know your DA thinks blacks are stupid”.
I have tried to communicate with him by asking him 5 Simple questions. Those questions ranged from “why do you support the ANC” to “why do you dislike the DA”. An hour later I still had no answers and were blocked by him from Facebook and Twitter. I was in due time labeled a racist by him to all his Twitter and Facebook followers.
I would like to end this letter by discussing my disappointment. As you probably have noticed by now this letter appears in the “Mynews24” section and not in the “Voices” section. I would love for it to be published there but for some reason receiving feedback once you apply to become a contributor there is near impossible.
I have applied three times and have received no feedback whatsoever. I hold a Masters Degree in Industrial Psychology, I am very active in politics and I am part of a Young Leaders Program for the DA. I am not mentioning these things to boast but I do think it would play a part in being selected as a columnist.
This however was not the case as it seems my education and involvement in politics is no match for an undergrad student with a chip on his shoulder and a clear support for SASCO and the ANC. I out qualify him in every single aspect but yet I didn’t receive as a much as a rejection letter. What is the common denominator here? What must I think?
I suppose this letter completely destroys my chances of becoming a contributor but at least I have gotten things off my chest. I would never deny someone their freedom of speech and I feel that if “Voices” believe him to be worthwhile then so be it, I truly just hope people see straight though his propaganda.
