An Open Letter to Jesse Duarte – ANC Deputy Secretary General

11 July 2014, 14:06

Few times in my life have I read such a vicious, unjustified and distorted attack on a sovereign state by a senior member of another government. The ANC Press release entitled “The Situation in the Gaza Strip”, exemplifies such a disgrace!

The falsities mentioned are so many and so riddled with anti-Semitism that all I can wonder is how the South African community doesn’t stand up with one voice against their government! Duarte compares Israel with Nazi Germany. Innocent Jews amongst other minorities were targeted by the Nazis based on racist rhetoric. These minority groups were NOT terrorists, they did NOT harm innocent people, and they did NOT have charters demanding the genocide of another people. They were slaughtered for being Jews, Homosexuals, Gypsies and disabled. To compare Israel, the Middle East’s ONLY democracy, to this heinous regime is beyond vile, it is anti-Semitism at its worst!

Duarte fails at any point in her bigoted attack to criticize Hamas, a terrorist group, who conquered the Gaza Strip through a violent civil war with the Palestinian Authority, who murder opposition party member regularly, who allow Islamic radicalism to flourish throughout the strip, who are homophobic, anti-Christian and anti-Jewish. Where is the condemnation for a group who contrary to Duarte’s words, have fired over 14000 rockets indiscriminately at innocent Israeli civilians since 2002. Duarte fails to recognize, probably due to her senseless hatred, that Israel’s response is retaliation to the attacks. What would South Africa do if endless rockets were failing on Johannesburg or Cape Town?

Duarte mentions innocent Palestinians killed yet fails to make one critical association as to the cause: Hamas uses its civilian population as human shields. While Israel sends thousands of pamphlets warning civilians of impending attacks, Hamas calls on families to stay in the buildings and act as shields. These buildings are NOT randomly attacked they house missiles which are used to attack Israeli civilians. This results in innocent people killed. This is Hamas committing a double war crime – they attack civilians, from civilian areas.

Gaza is not the largest open-air prison in the world. Gaza receives thousands upon thousands of humanitarian aid from Israel and Egypt, which continues even now during the war. There are many pictures on the internet showing five star hotels, shopping markets filled with fresh produce, mansions (probably of Hamas officials who have stolen funds from the people) (1)(2). She mentions Gaza is the most densely populated area on earth, this is more propaganda! Gaza doesn’t even make the top ten according to official statistics (3)! THIS is Gaza, and just because Duarte has fallen for Palestinian propaganda doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to.

Duarte mentions the “death of two Israeli young people”, what she doesn’t mention is that firstly there were three teenagers. Hamas kidnapped these teenagers while they were trying to get home to their families for the weekend. They were then murdered, not for any reason other than they are JEWS. Where is the condemnation? Israel does not do “eye for an eye” as Duarte says, they defend their population. Does this bother Duarte so much? What would she do if it was her children in this position?

A question that immediately comes to mind is this, where is the South African governments criticism of Syria (close to 200 000 people have been killed in their civil war), the human rights abuses by Islamist radicals throughout the Middle East i.e Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, the criticism of Iran which regularly hangs homosexuals in public squares? Why the silence? No Jews involved?

The ONLY people oppressing the Palestinians are their own leadership who perpetuate their victimhood, steal their money and use them as shields to hide behind when they attack others. It is time for governments around the world to stand with Israel against terror; this is the ONLY way to free the Palestinians.
