Over the past few weeks, I've been venting a bit about the questions I have about the christian faith in particular, but about religion in general.
This time, I'd like to be specific. Here's a direct quote from the King James bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4:
Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love vaunts not itself, is not puffed up,
The question this time is how this passage, in the mind of those who hold the bible as the only truth out there, ties in with their assertions about their god's love.
Let's look at it according to each part of the statement.
Love suffers long. And yet, christians the world over are hell bent (excuse the pun) about shoving 'god's' love down every throat they encounter. Your god is ageless. He has a lot of time on his hands.
And is kind. Witch burning, the inquisition, the intolerance of homosexuals, jews, anyone who isn't 'people like you' says otherwise. Or am I misinterpreting the bigotry?
Love envies not. Really? If your god's love is not envious, then why the relentless drive to convert the world (goes for all religions by the way.) If your god's love is not envious, then why are you all so intolerant of other views?
Love vaunts not itself. It is not puffed up.
Sorry, but the fall back position of all religidrones is that because they love us, and want to save our immortal souls, they have to bash us over the head with their idiocy and doctrine at every turn.
Frankly, there's a take on this that I've mentioned before, and that many of you might not have seen:
Love is supposed to be selfless. It's supposed to be something you give without getting in return. Any parent can tell you that.
Why are y'all so worried then?
If your god really does love ALL his children, then we don't have to love him back at all. If he demands something in return, then his love is NOT selfless, and that means he's probably not the true face of god anyways.
It's really surprising that you haven't asked these questions before, but may I say that it's an absolute pleasure to engage your brains?
