Amazingly, between all the controversies surrounding Julius Malema, some new number 10 (I think?) rugby player and the supposed breakdown of the ANC, the article on "Tom Cruise leaving Scientology" still scored as a top read yesterday.
Don't get me wrong, I clicked on the link faster then you can say Katie Holmes but I was surprised to see that it's obviously not only me that seems to have a morbid fascination with this religion.
I recently read an article in a local magazine where a journalist actually went for the enrolment class in the JHB branch and basically was so freaked out that she ran her escape!
I must admit, I am curious…Is it really as freaky as many make it out to be? Is Sea Org really some God-forsaken ship where they hole up kids, brainwash them with "auditing" and never let them free? (What do they do for clothes on there? - Imagine poor Suri with no shopping!) Does the likes of Tom, Kirstey Alley and John Travolta really believe they are "Thetans" from alien descent and therefore immortal? (My humble opinion is that Mr Travolta may be our ET -- always thought him a bit odd.)
Forgive me for the bites of dry humour but I realise that I am , without good reason, very intrigued with Scientology. They have certainly managed to create a mystical aura that is more then a little alluring. Kudos though to for the journalist mentioned above for venturing in there. I may be curious, but knowing full well that I'm human and mortal I'd rather not take any chances!
