I read a News24 article by Chris McEvoy the other day which basically glorifies the sluts among us.
Some valid points were made either side of the debate. One the one hand you have the liberals and on the other, the prudes (sorry, conservatives).
Liberals say: If it wasn’t for sluts us desperate men would still be virgins.
Prudes say: don’t spread those kickers and fasten those knickers
Liberals say: Bring on the sluts, and “Bless their wicked, horny souls.”
Prudes say: “Everyone would like a key which opens any lock, but no one would like a lock which is opened by any key”.
So where do we stand as a modern, new millennial society? I must be honest, mine leans to the left, or is it right, in this debate? I stand erect, firm in my defence of the slutbag. That’s not to say that I can’t score with just my charm and charisma, but let’s be honest, sluts do make our journey into manhood easier.
I can vividly remember discovering my first Scope magazine under my uncle’s bed. Yes, those pesky stars covered all the bountiful bits, but man, my senses were heightened and my eyes were opened that day. Then came the fall of Apartheid and with that an influx of pornography, a raging flood of contraband not seen since the days of alcohol returning to the States after the collapse of Prohibition.
The sudden rise in sexual awareness overwhelmed us as hundreds of sex shops sprung up almost as fast as men’s crotches during those scenes from Basic Instinct.
Today those stores are as common as candy with some even having special rooms where complete strangers can engage in all sorts of sordid fetishes and fantasies (so I’m told).
Online there’s a plethora of dating sites, which seem to encourage promiscuity and even other sites that flaunt adultery or homosexual encounters, with gay abandon (are we bordering on complete debauchery?).
But in spite of all this, no one seems to bat an eyelid anymore. It’s all accepted behaviour for us South Africans.
Have we become a nation of perverts?
