Am I human? This seems to be a question we (or at least many of us) should be asking ourselves daily.
To what inhumane levels have we sunk ?
After yet another terrible weekend regarding "news" articles, what seriously bothers me is the comments observed, and the pure inflated numbers thereof indicate quite clearly where we appear to be rapidly heading towards as a society.
I bowed my head in shame at both the articles, and tears roll down my cheek, as I look yet further at the comments made, regarding the locking up of a 3 year old, and yet in another part of the world the rape and killing of a 5 year old.
It would appear that in todays society, of which sadly I am a part, locking up a child generates a "more-vocal" response than what raping and killing another child does - I am aware that this latter incident occured outside of South African borders, so maybe this is why.
However this begs the question, where exactly does our moral compass point in todays society...in particular in South Africa?
The arguments and slandering in the comments that occurs is shocking to say the least. What have we come to...when we miss the article almost entirely, and lay into each another with complete and utter abandon. We do not add anything constructive (or very seldomly do), but we get whipped up into a complete frenzy and spew forth absolute and all consuming hatred, intolerance, vile, and sadly, simply ridiculous comments.
Perhaps the most worthwhile comment I noticed was - 'I am ashamed of being part pf the human race today...'
And then perhaps the saddest comment I read was - "k a f * * * *"
I too get riled, but I at least attempt some form of constraint when attacking someone who made a post or comment personally.
I read a quote by Edmund Burke, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing...", and it would "appear" that in todays society good men indeed do nothing. Or at least most do...
To the individuals who get so extremely agitated and place their disgusting comments out there for all the world to see, I have a question. Do you not want to attempt to be a better human being ?
It is strange how quickly you demand it from others, but display NO such intentions yourself.
You demand tolerance, but you display none.
You demand fairness, but you indicate none.
You demand "right", but you do none.
You demand respect, but you give none.
You demand equality, but you indicate none.
You demand compassion, but you give none.
You demand freedom, but you grant none.
You demand justice, but only if its yours to be had.
You demand to be treated as a human being, but are you one...?
