Are you a smart shopper sir?

30 June 2014, 11:25
The question does beg an answer. I get asked this each and every time I am ready to pay at the till. We use the Pick & Pay across the road for our bare daily essentials.
We prefer not to buy the meat there, having tried it a few times. The meat is always fatty and not of good quality. Would not touch the "boerie" having tired that once before.
We got some Muslim folk in the family, So naturally, I get a lean Mince at their preferred butcher and buy my Parmesan at the Pick & Pay.
Anyway, Onions browned, Mince thrown in, 2 cans of tomatoes added & Puree, Spices ,stock and a touch of wine.
My Bolognaise was done, pasta was cooked and I like to throw them together and throw a decent helping of Parmesan over before we serve.
The Parmesan was completely off, The entire meal tasted Yuck and well, we couldn't eat it.
I check on the packets to see the expiry date but this does not help our situation. We throw the food away.
Few days later I am walking in while sending a message, Very dangerous by the way, my phone lands on the floor . The manager bumped me and my phone fell out my hand.
I thought this a good time to mention my spoiled meal for 7 people.
After hearing my explanation, where I inadvertently mentioned up front that I did not purchase the Mince at his store.
He asks me, are you sure it wasn't your mince that was off ?
I did not completely inform him of my feelings right there, But i can assure you that punching him on the nose did come to mind.
Imagine the cheek, I know what quality meat is, that is why I don't buy meat at the dreadful Pick & Pay.
It was clear that this guy was completely naive or more likely arrogant enough to propose what he did.
I assured him the mice was excellent quality & fresh and that it was definitely the "off" cheese sold on his shelf.
I did not even get so much as an apology, No gesture at me recovering my lost meal.
So am I really a smart shopper?
They tell us that if we use their cards and become loyal shoppers we get rewarded.
The way I worked it out, to get R 10 000 in a gift you would need to spend a cool Million rand.
To earn a thousand rand you would have had to spend R 100 000 , One hundred thousand rand.
I am not sure how many people can count these days, But that is really a small discount if any.
If somebody gave me a million rand, I may give them R 100 000 discount in a heart beat, a healthy 10 % .
Not pick & Pay, They created a multi million rand shopper card system where you the shopper gets 1 % back.
Why not just kick you in the ass and get done with it ?
There is no value in shopping at a Pick & Pay these days.
They intentionally place incorrect prices on products, They conveniently leave prices of others.
Show me a smart shopper, I sure as heck am not !!!
