Asking the right questions, rewarding the right behaviours in employees

Are companies today doing enough for their employees? Which areas are companies / organisations that are not doing enough failing to address?

Have you recently considered the value or worth you add to your company? And, whilst considering that, have you been struck with the thought : " I can do so much more " or " I would really love to do this project", but followed that thought with "if only my company would ....(complete sentence)". What are those things or issues that you wish your company would recognize or tend to? In an attempt to retain employees (due to high replacement costs), more and more companies are, and in fact should be asking their employees these questions.

Topics such as money, authority, responsibility and so forth are easily brought to mind and companies gladly give these to individuals willing to put in the hours. However, what are the company in turn asking their employees to give up?

How many people have given up on spending time with their children, being actively involved as a parent, spouse and community member to achieve what they may call success? How many children have missed out on being taught fundamental wisdom[s] and values due to an absent parent? How many adults realize that once these kids reach a working age that it will again be their responsibility to instill good values and ethics into these young adults.

When I read the above the question stated and direction this article is moving into thus is not necessarily just whether companies are providing for their employees actual needs, but if companies are rewarding the correct behaviors. If you had to list three private concerns you wish your company would provide more time for, what would they be? And, what would the effect of this be on your productivity and loyalty towards your company?
