Usually, I write about religion or politics - the two things my mother told me never to discuss with people.
She was probably right - they both stir people up - but it's so much more fun this way!
Anyway, this post ISN'T about either of those things. It's about something else I've noticed, overwhelmingly, on News24.
It's that my fellow SAn's LOVE to make assumptions.
My profile picture is a good case in point. There have been several small minded, verkrampte people making assumptions about what I do for a living.
Of course, if you are a woman, in these mental midget's minds, then you should be barefoot, pregnant, and subservient in the kitchen.
Shock horror! You put on some boots, and have an opinion?
Well then, you must be a whore.
LOL!
Trust me folks, couldn't be further from the truth.
The other classic one is that because I am white, I am the 'oppressor.'
Erm. Sorry. Never oppressed anyone before.
Firstly, don't have any power, and secondly, if I did, do you have any IDEA how much energy a good oppressing takes? How could you possibly get anything done when your every waking moment is devoted to sowing abject misery?
How is it that we're all so obsessed with outward appearances, that we can't get our small minds off of them when we make decisions about people?
Here's a novel idea: in future, why don't you judge people based on what they say, and how they say it, when you judge their intellectual capacity or integrity? Instead of, for instance, one image of them, or how they happen to look?
Because to be completely honest, when you do that, the only person whoe character you sow doubt about is your own.
